WordPress Multisite is a less-popular “mode” of WordPress that allows you to install multiple (up to hundreds of sites) in one single WordPress installations. Although it is still the same WordPress, getting started with WordPress Multisite is a bit confusing at first. There are few additional steps you need to know to manage your own multisite network.
Over the last two weeks, we had the time to read this awesome book called WordPress Multisite Administration, authored by Tyler L. Longre.
It’s no doubt to say that this is one of the most complete guidelines to get started with WordPress Multisite and helps you to understand how to manage your first WordPress Multisite network.
Here’s the list of chapters in this book:
- Chapter 1: Getting Started with WordPress Multisite
- Chapter 2: Customization
- Chapter 3: User Management and Permissions
- Chapter 4: Protecting Your Multisite Network
- Chapter 5: Migrating Multiple WordPress Blogs to a Multisite Network
- Chapter 6: Site Optimization
- Chapter 7: Troubleshooting and Maintaining Stability
The first three chapters provides you with most of the things you need to know to manage your WordPress Multisite network. All basic stuffs. Interestingly, the book comes with many read-to-use working codes that can be copied and pasted. This makes a better learning experience for the readers.
To make the learning experience more fun, the author also provided many screenshots to make it clearer for the reader.
The 4th chapter of the book is a bit advanced chapter but I think it’s vital for every administrator. The author did a very good explanation on securing your WP Multisite network such as protecting
wp-config.php file and few other steps. The 5th chapter is just a bonus if you’d like to migrate from a standalone or single installation site to WordPress Multisite.
For even more advanced users, in chapter 6 and 7 you’ll learn about site optimization and troubleshooting your own site which is very important to make sure your site loads fast and keeps up to date with latest stable version of WordPress.
The book is available through Packt site and many online stores such as Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Safari Book Online and O Reilly.
The book is available in two versions, printed copy or ebook. The ebook version comes with various formats such as ePub, PDF and for .mobi.
