By default, every WordPress post is set to publish. Once you have clicked the Publishbutton, it will be publicly available in your website. WordPress is very flexible and allows you to make it a password protected post. By setting your post to password protected, only readers with a password are able to read the post. This is great if you want to allow a specific group of people to read the post.
In the early version of WordPress, this kind of thing can only be done using another WordPress plugin. Now, no plugin is needed to enable this feature.
In this series of WordPress101, I’ll go through how to enable this feature.
Enable Password Protected Post
Every time you write a post, see on the top right of your screen.
1. In the Visibility setting, click on Edit.
2. Choose the Password protected option.
3. Put your password. Just a reminder, do not put the same password you use to log in into your dashboard as the password you use here might be shared to other people. Only one password is allowed here.
4. When you’re done writing the post, hit the Publish button. You can also edit the published button and set it as Password protected post.
Here’s the preview of the password protected post when using the default Twenty Seventeentheme.
